It’s been a while since we visited a local pizza place so we decided to check out Rovente Pizzeria’s newest location at the Streets of Tanasbourne (located off of Cornell and NW 185th)

A local pizza chain, Rovente has two other locations. You can find them downtown at 4th and Washington and on SW Macadem Avenue.

There aren’t a lot of quick food options at Streets of Tanasbourne so Rovente Pizzeria is a welcome addition.
They have taken over an existing restaurant location and the decor is on the slim side but the pizza is not! Who really goes to a pizza place for the decor anyway!?

They have a great selection of “pizza flavors” with 6 -8 choices each day and of course you can always order “your way” too!

I of course had my usual choice of plain old cheese. It was great and had just the right amount of cheese grease – yum!!

My friend went for one of the vege versions with artichoke hearts! We took advantage of their lunch special and had a slice with a Greek side salad.

We definitely recommend Rovente Pizzeria if you are hungry from your power shopping at Streets of Tanasbourne or you are looking for a new pizza place to check out!

OK, so this pizza place isn’t exactly local. You will have to drive a little ways to visit it but it’s worth the drive!

Next time you are enjoying a day or a weekend at the Oregon Coast head on down to Manzanita (my favorite Oregon beach town), just 15 minutes south of Cannon Beach for a visit to the local pizza place in town – Marzano’s. In my opinion, the best place to eat in Manzanita!

Located at the bottom of the main street of Manzanita (Laneda), Marzano’s is only steps away from the beach.

Everything is made fresh daily at Marzano’s – fresh dough and fresh sauce! For an updated menu be sure and check out the web. Lots of fun and yummy combinations. Some of our favorites are Four Cheese and Roasted Garlic and of course my boys love the Carne Amore.

The service has always been nothing but delightful. On a busy summer weekend there will be a wait so plan ahead. Enjoy the wait and stroll up and down the quaint main street of Manzanita. There are lots of fun little shops to explore.

They also have a take out window so you can get your pizza to go and then enjoy a beautiful sunset on the beach.

Just don’t visit on a Tuesday or Wednesday because they are closed then.

Although their prices may be a bit higher, it is not unusual for a beach town. The other benefit is you are just a few steps away from this…

4620 NE Glisan St Portland

American Dream Pizza is located across the street from Providence Hospital in SE Portland and has been around for as long as I’ve lived in Portland which is over 23 years. If you find yourself in the area or anywhere near Laurelhurst/Hawthorne areas you will want to stop in. It is even worth a special drive over from the West side of town.

Not only is American Dream serving up some great pizza but lots of local SE color too with a bright, primary, romper room color scheme. Everything from the tennis shoe art on the ceiling…

to the hand painted school room chairs….

to the pizza box art on the walls will keep you entertained while you wait for your pizza.

Whether you want a whole pie or just a slice American Dream lets you build your own. Each slice is cooked to order. You can pile on the toppings as high as you want. Their yummy crust is strong enough to support it!

Their crust is my favorite and it is given a bath of garlic and butter before being served. I ate my crust and my husbands!

So next time you need some pizza now – check out American Dream!

If you are looking for a little more upscale pizza experience Ken’s is definitely the place. But expect to wait, so be there right when the doors open at 5:00 p.m.

Ken’s features local and seasonal ingredients and each pizza is cooked to order in the massive beehive-like wood oven.

Our favorites are the Spring onion featuring mozzarella, roasted spring onions and fresh herbs.

And the meat lovers in my family loved the Soppressata which is tomato sauce, mozzarella, spicy soppressata (pepperoni like) and basil – yum!

Please remember that the menu does change seasonally.

We also enjoyed a delicious CaesarSalad and the Lamb & Pita – both which were wonderful.

Because the pizzas are prepared in a wood burning oven you get a crust that is crisp yet chewy.

There is inside and outside dining. Because the weather was nice we chose outside – it was a delightful, relaxing and delicious dining experience.

Today’s post is the first in a series. We are going to highlight some of our favorite pizza spots in the Portland area.

Today we want to introduce you to Escape from New York Pizza – Leigh Anne’s personal favorite.

Escape from New York Pizza is located at 622 NW 23rd. It is a perfect place to stop for lunch during your shopping adventures on NW 23rd. It opens at 11:30 a.m. and closes at 11:00 p.m.

Not only will the pizza taste like you are eating in NYC but the atmosphere will make you feel like you are in NYC as well! Sitting is rather limited – there are a few tables both inside and out but I prefer a stool at the counter.

This place has good pizza. There are usually 3-4 choices each day.

You can check out the days offerings on the board. Fridays are our favorite because they always have black olive pizza! Cheese and pepperoni are always part of the selection.

This place has character – from the wall decor to the people behind the counter to the old cash register.

In the true NY style the pizza has a thin crust and plenty of good pizza grease to go with it – yum! So next time you have a craving for good old NY style pizza take a trip down to NW 23rd.

You can sit and watch them prepare the pizza and if you are lucky you will even get to see them throw it in the air!

So next time you are craving a yummy, greasy, cheesy piece of pizza – Escape from New York Pizza is your place!

Tell them Homebased Portland sent you!

We’d also love to hear where your favorite place to get pizza is in the Portland metro area – please leave us a comment and let us know!
